“That’s all very well, Princess Florentine,” Mrs Southwold said, giving me one of her looks. “However, it’s my duty to help you understand that not every client is going to be quite like the Princes.”

I had come back to the Paradise two days after my first-ever appointment as a whore, seeing to the needs of three Princes at Windsor Castle. Taking my place on the sofa in the brothel’s reception room, I had merely said that it was a remarkably lovely experience.

“Now mind you pay attention, Florrie,” Scarlet said, addressing me by my new nickname and placing her hand on my arm to emphasise the point. “Mrs Southwold’s telling you no more than the plain truth. Some of the men who are going to buy your lovely young body will be paying for special services. It won’t be a straightforward fucking every time, you know.”

“Yes,” Polly said, from the other side of the room. She would normally have been seated with the two of us, but one of her clients from the previous day had paid extra to spank her and quite hardly, as it turned out. As a result, she was pacing up and down, pausing to rub her bottom occasionally, wincing as she did so. “My poor aching backside could tell you its own painful tale of special services, right enough.”

“There’s much more where that came from, Princess,” Mrs Southwold said. “But the Princes did send me a private note to say that your performance with them was exemplary. I think that bodes very well for your future here at the Paradise.”

“That’s wonderful,” Polly said and came over to give me a friendly kiss. Scarlet did the same.

“And as for the financial arrangements,” Mrs Southwold said. “The amount they paid to take your maidenhood, in triplicate as it were, was brought by Royal messenger yesterday. Of course, it’s far too large a sum for safekeeping here on the premises. I immediately had two of the servants take it to Coutts Bank, where I have arranged to set up an account in your name.”

“You’re too kind, Mrs Southwold,” I said. “I would not have known how to best to secure such an amount.”

“I hope your girl’s seeking out better lodgings until you find a house of your own to buy,” Polly said.

She and Scarlet had come to visit me the day before to see how I was feeling after my thorough usage in every hole by the three Princes. They were none too impressed at the neglected attic rooms in Ludgate Hill which were all that I had been able to afford until I met Polly and took up whoring.

“Yes,” I said. “Madeleine’s going to inspect some premises in Soho which I hope will be suitable. She’s quite fussy, so if she’s satisfied, I’m sure I will be, too.”

“That’s a much better part of town,” Scarlet said.

“Perhaps worth buying your new house in,” Polly said.

As we considered my future as a home owner, there was a brisk knocking at the front door.
